Girls' Day

Matt went skiing (for one final time) on Saturday, so HD and I hung out with Nonna all day. It was such a busy day! Seriously, my mil is like the Energizer bunny...never stops going. Now I know where my husband and daughter got it from. Anyway, here's a brief recap of our day.

We woke up and went straight to the market (without showering, putting on make up or anything - this becomes important later on in the story) in downtown Pordenone. I went with plans to just look and browse, nothing more. However, Nonna spoiled us. I came home with a few gadgets, three new shirts, and four pairs of tights for HD. I also found a few gifts for people at home. After walking through the market for about an hour, Nonna treated us to hot chocolate and pastries. Yum-O!

We headed back to the market and then took a break so Hailey could ride the carousel again - four times! She loved it...she was dancing to the music, waving at people and really enjoying herself. We're going to try to back tonight...

After the carousel, we headed back through the market and the downtown. Now, here's the funny part - I always put on make up, even when I'm not going to leave the house. And I certainly never go out without make up. While we've been here, I have put on make up every single day - except for Saturday. So, wouldn't you know that we ran into at least 10 people that Nonna wanted to introduce me to...crazy! I felt so disgusting and was embarrassed for Matt - his wife being introduce with dirty hair and no make up! Oh well - what can you do? But it was really fun to see so many friends/teachers/etc of Matt while we were out.

By the time we got through the downtown it was 11:30 and HD was tired - in fact she fell asleep in the stroller. We took her home for a little bit more a nap and lunch. After lunch we played outside, took a shower and then headed back out so HD could play at the park where Matt and his siblings used to play. There were swings, teeter-totters, slides, etc.
(I gotta find some new ways to get HD to smile for pictures!)

But HD's favorite part were all the ducks, swans, geese and birds by the pond. And although you're not supposed to feed the ducks, we did put out a little bread to get them to come closer to HD...she was in seventh heaven. She loved every minute of it!
She was laughing at a goose (not pictured) who just "honked".

We wore her out again and she fell asleep while Nonna ran errands (HD and I stayed in the car so she could sleep.) After arriving home and taking a nap, Nonna taught me how to make gnocchi (I have posted the recipe here and here) and we had an awesome dinner of gnocchi, steak and vegetables. HD was exhausted and went to sleep with no problems. It was so fun to spend the day all together. Nonna is so great and we are definitely going to miss her when we leave!
This is a cute picture of sweet HD after church yesterday. Notice the cute tights and shoes - thanks Nonna!

Her hair is long! Ok, my turn to play with her. I am glad you had a great time and I am sure you are sorry to leave but both Mark and I are very excited to see you guys.

Oh my gosh, I love the tights and shoes, I just figured out something you can bring home for me. Tights and shoes for Kya. How fun! HD looks so cute, as always.
