Carnevale!

Maschera
Playing in the alley...so cute. We got her coat this morning at a store down the street from Matt's house. It was a steal...and so cute.
Family picture in front of the gondolas.

Well, we made it! We went to Venice yesterday for Carnevale. The weather ended up being perfect - blue skies and sunshiney (most of the day). It was relatively warm (in fact, I ended up taking off my coat). We spent a good amount of time in Piazza San Marco. The place was packed with Italians, foreigners, tourists, citizens, perfomers, pigeons and people walking around in masks and costumes. Quite the place to be - a big, huge party. It was amazing...and crazy!
After we left San Marco, we walked through the various alleys and over numerous bridges to Teatro Goldoni. We ate lunch (made by Nonna) and then Matt bought some new ties (at his one and only tie store). While Matt was in the store, HD got a chance to stretch her legs (after a nice hour-long nap in the stroller) and draw more stares. People were laughing and smiling as they watched her run around and pose for pictures. The girl has no fear of anything or anyone. When we weren't sightseeing or taking pictures, we were a large boat transporting us to and from the train station.
I absolutely LOVE Venice and today I was reminded why. It's just a romantic place to be - even with millions of people. The boats on the the canals, the architecture, everything - it's just awesome.
If you would like to see more pictures of our day, click here. I'm warning you, there are A LOT...and I didn't even post all of them.

Memories, memories, how does that song go? I'm so glad you made it for carnivale and the weather was beautiful. Just keep enjoying. I hear you are going to Verona tomorrow. Take a picture of the house if you make it out there. Be careful on those fast roads, oh, I forgot who is driving, the race car man. I love the video of Nonna and HD, she must be loving it, both of them.
