Wednesday - Innsbruck and Cortina

After skiing and playing on Tuesday, we relaxed at the hotel before heading downtown for dinner.
I had to get a picture of the way they made the bed. All the hotel rooms we looked at online had their beds like this. It works because Matt and I don't like to share a blanket anyway!
Downtown Innsbruck.
Dinner at a semi-Italian restaurant - Gemelli Pizzeria.
HD was so tired after our fun day that she fell asleep on the way back to the hotel and didn't wake up when I changed her.

Wednesday morning we checked out of our hotel and then headed to downtown Innsbruck. I really wanted to get some pictures so Matt dropped me off and stayed in the car while HD slept. Although the sun was a little bright and there were a lot of shadows, I still got some good shots. It really is a gorgeous downtown with a lot of bright colors. I wish we could have gotten a family picture but I think we've got enough.

Ready to go out with the luggage.

More downtown.

After our little tour of downtown we headed to the mall. The guy at the info booth in Tirl recommended it to us. We figured we'd let HD walk around before putting her in the car for our trip home. It was a fairly nice mall and we had a good time just window shopping. And then we went to...

That's right! IKEA at the foot of the gorgeous Alps. I love IKEA and although I found lots of stuff I wanted, I don't have that much room in my suitcase and I can go to IKEA in SLC, as well. Once again, I have ideas running through my head about what I can do - especially in HD's room. HD loved running around in the store and playing on all the furniture. She just went everywhere she wanted and loved every minute of it.

After a few hours of shopping we grabbed lunch and headed home. HD took a good nap while we drove to Cortina, Italy - just two hours away. Matt decided to stop there so we could stretch our legs and break up the trip just a little bit. We had driven through Cortina last time we were here but didn't spend as much time.

Cortina is another ski resort town in the Dolomites. The main street is similar (in price and style) to Fifth Avenue - although not nearly that big. Since there are no cars on the street, we let HD walk around and gather more stares. It was hard to keep her attention on where we were going because there were so many dogs (not stray and gross) that she wanted to follow them everywhere. She loves dogs!

Downtown Cortina.

At the end of the main street there is a big store (4 stories) that is something like our Target. We enjoyed looking around and shaking our head at the prices. This is something we've found since being here - it is really, really expensive. More so than four years ago and definitely more so than when Matt was still living here. For some reason, Italy hasn't bounced back from the change over to Euro. It was tough on most countries but it seems to have affected Italy even more. In fact a small pair of baby gloves that you would normally buy for $3-$6 in the US cost about $22-$30 here. Another crazy store was The North Face. Listen to this, for example this coat http://www.thenorthface.com/opencms/opencms/tnf/gear.jsp?site=NA&model=AR4H&language=en in the US can be bought for about $550, while in that store was listed for $1,140. I think the cheapest serious coat Matt looked at was nothing less than $850. Unbelievable! So, ya, we're not buying a whole lot here!

Eating her (current) favorite snack - a Kinder Brioss.

Anyway, we spent some time in the store and then headed back to the car. There was a little restaurant just at the end of the street - we weren't sure if it would be overpriced so we were pleasantly surprised when we saw their menu. We enjoyed a yummy dinner of pizza and gnocchi. They didn't have a high chair so HD got to be a big girl and sit on the booth with us. She did rather well (she's growing up too fast).

After dinner we headed back to the car ready to head home. It was 7:30 so we knew HD would sleep the rest of the way. We watched Friends on our portable DVD player and arrived home before 9:30 pm. We were tired but it was well worth it. Such a fun trip!
